Kristie and I met in 2003 at our sons' Montessori school in Marietta. With many artistic interests in common, we combined our creative backgrounds to form KK West Designs in 2008 to create "wearable works of art" for our clients. As mothers of young boys at the time, our mission became to transform t-shirt and jeans into a fabulous outfit with a one-of-a-kind belt buckle or pendant. Eight years later, our business has grown to include mosaic belt buckles, pendants, cuffs, and handmade leather and metal designs. We've grown our local business from exhibiting at juried craft shows and selling to friends and family into an online store with clients around the world. A few of our buckles will shown in Netflix's new series starting in January, 2016, "The Get Down". We are so grateful for the wonderful people who have helped us expand our business into what it is today. :) K and K
With a lifelong love of all things creative, my background includes a BA in Economics, Art History minor, and a concentration in studio art from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Before my older son was born, I worked as an interior designer for a large homebuilder in Atlanta and as a kitchen designer for an international cabinet company. Kristie and I co-chaired the art auction for several years at our sons' school, and we shared a PE teaching job for eight years. I have taught children's art classes since 2006 which I absolutely love. I attended DiDomizio's Art Centre studio for five years where I received the best art instruction I have ever had. I have been drawing and painting for years now, and I will show my work on this site very soon.:)
With a very busy family of five, Kristie has taken a break from our business to make room for more family time and her awesome talent in interior design. We bounce artsy ideas off each other often-whatever they may be. I look forward to many more afternoons at her kitchen table making "stuff" when she has more time in the future. It's been a blast.
I was blessed to be born into a very creative family that fostered my love of art. My dad has a PhD. in Mechanical Engineering and can design or fix ANYTHING. My mother is a very gifted photographer who has been generous enough to let me use her beautiful images from which to paint and draw (www.janicesanborn.com). Both parents gave me unlimited love and support with anything and everything I've tried to accomplish. My husband and my two, now teenage, boys have been a constant source of inspiration and encouragement for me. Thank you for putting up with all of it! I thank all of my extended family, friends, long term clients, and people that have given me so much of the great materials I use (with a "I thought you could use THIS") for their support of my artistic efforts. It all means the world to me! Katie
